21 Guns is the second single from Green Day's 21st Century Breakdown album. The song was featured in Transformers 2.
21 Guns Lyrics:
Do you know what's worth fighting for,
When it's not worth dying for?
Does it take your breath away
And you feel yourself suffocating?
Does the pain weigh out the pride?
And you look for a place to hide?
Did someone break your heart inside?
You're in ruins
One, 21 guns
Lay down your arms
Give up the fight
One, 21 guns
Throw up your arms into the sky,
You and I
When you're at the end of the road
And you lost all sense of control
And your thoughts have taken their toll
When your mind breaks the spirit of your soul
Your faith walks on broken glass
And the hangover doesn't pass
Nothing's ever built to last
You're in ruins.
One, 21 guns
Lay down your arms
Give up the fight
One, 21 guns
Throw up your arms into the sky,
You and I
Did you try to live on your own
When you burned down the house and home?
Did you stand too close to the fire?
Like a liar looking for forgiveness from a stone
When it's time to live and let die
And you can't get another try
Something inside this heart has died
You're in ruins.
One, 21 guns
Lay down your arms
Give up the fight
One, 21 guns
Throw up your arms into the sky,
You and I

i love this song!!! (L)
ReplyDeleteOh man, you and I both. And soon to be billions xD
ReplyDeletewow
ReplyDeletethis is going to be their biggest hit on the album...
ReplyDeleteI love it.
ReplyDeleteIt probably wouldn't be on the radio? "Gun" isn't allowed on the radio. -_-
I dont know this is a great song but I think murder city is the best on the cd. Its all good. Its diffrent but its the same at the same time. Great stuff
ReplyDeletei verry like this song so much !!
ReplyDeleteGO GREENDAY GO GREENDAT,. :D
this is the best song on the album no questions asked this would be a good single but it has the word gun so they wont let it be good
ReplyDeleteThey just played this on the radio.....so I guess gun isn't an issue. Great song......heard it and came straight here. Hope they write a choir version.....i'd love to sing it with a group.
ReplyDeleteYeah! Here in Mexico they've already played that song on the radio! Green Day Fucking Rulez! Green forever!
ReplyDeleteYawn...one of the worst songs on the album. Green Day needs to steer clear of this type of song or they will quickly become predictable and irrelevant.
ReplyDeletewow, this is so amazing, like my favorite on the album so far. i'm so loving this.
ReplyDelete"Green Day needs to steer clear of this type of song or they will quickly become predictable and irrelevant."
ReplyDeleteWhat? This is exactly the type of song that will KEEP them relevant! As for predictable, well, did you expect to find a song such as Last Night On Earth on this album? 'Cause I certainly didn't! Songs like these tend to have a much longer shelf-life than songs joking about masturbation and using drugs!
OMG anyone that says that 21 guns is something they need to stay away from isa fucking asshole!!!!!!!!! ok, this is what is going to make billions of people love them, because they can appeal to EVERYONE ok. this is one of the best songs on this album and is almost the best (i personally like murder city) this is an awesome and if you don't like the new green day, well fuck off and go live in the past (and get a real life)
ReplyDeleteThis and Last Night on Earth are the best off the album :)
ReplyDeleteLove the whole CD. Saw them do 21 Guns on Sat Night Live this weekend - awesome. Don't mock me but I really would like to understand..... What does the 1 21 Guns mean? All I can think of is a 21 Gun Salute. Any help is appreciated. (Go Green Day - you're the best)
ReplyDeleteGr8est song in the album! I love it! Can't wait 4 Greenday 2 come 2 Argentina soon!! xoxo
ReplyDeletethe intro just like Holiday...and the rest of the tune very similar with Boulevard of Broken Dreams... I Love this song !!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Chilly Chilly Chilly! Green Day are awesome, no doubt about it! We waited long enough mind you!
ReplyDeleteOh Billie I wanna lick your eyeliner right outta your gorgeous huge eyes!
ReplyDeleteI went through the album one song at a time and this was the only one that leapt out at me; I like this song heaps!
ReplyDeletethe melody in this song reminds me of the song "Africa"
ReplyDeleteI hear "All The Young Dudes" in the chorus, what do you think?
ReplyDeleteThis song, Before the Lobotomy and the non LP Social Distortion cover of "Another State of mind" are the best from this recording session. I never thought anyone would cover Social Distortion as well as Greenday! Just as good or slightly better!
ReplyDeleteThis is FANTASTIC.
ReplyDeleteAre you all kidding me?????? I think greenday is great too but come on.... First off the song is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY TOOOOOOOOOO SLOOOOOOOOOW!!! Billy wines through the song like a 4yr old who was denied a cookie. It has the most predictable and uncreative lyrics. The guitar and drums are boring as hell. Maybe you have to be 17 and depressed to enjoy it. But you'll be depressed by the end of the song anyway. Give your head a shake Billy, I' disapointed.
ReplyDeletebig words for a little pussy
ReplyDeletelike you would wrote a better song!
This song certainly isn't depressing, it's hopeful! By the end you have to feel some sense of hope! Great song, great message, go Green Day.
ReplyDeleteOMG u're all stupid, these new songs there are nothing about the old Green Day, sounds diferent.
ReplyDeleteI prefer the old ones.
this is the BEST song. no doubt about it. so different then all their previous stuff. i love it! :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with anonymous above. I heard 21 Guns on the radio the other day and the chorus sounded familiar. It took my brain a little while to recognize, but the chorus sounds like 'All The Young Dudes' by Mott the Hoople (written by David Bowie).
ReplyDeleteNot that that is bad, I guess, but the song is kind of predictable. It's trying to be Boulevard of Broken Dreams but not quite making it to the same standard.
The lyrics are so beautiful. Its different from what they usually play and thats whats going to make this the biggest hit of this album.
ReplyDeletei love greenday
ReplyDeleteamazing band, fantastic song!!!
ReplyDeleteyadneerd evol i
ReplyDeleteabove - read the message backwards
after i heard twenty one guns a few times, I would find myself humming All the Young Dudes by David Bowie and wondering why on earth that old song had come into my head. Then I listened again to the chorus. It's the same! I think Green Day has ripped off the riff from David Bowie and should give him songwriting credit.
ReplyDeletegreat song
ReplyDeletegreat songgg
ReplyDeletei listen to this söong every nite. .
ReplyDelete:p
a lot of people who dont like greenday (shame on them) give this song a bad rap but i think its one of the best of the album its just a great song
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your many and varied comments - so much good stuff here - some of you speak with your heart but some of you with bricks in your head!
ReplyDeleteDavid Bowie is credited for the song.
ReplyDeleteNot sure on your police work there Anonymous. I can't find anywhere that gives Bowie a song writing credit for 21 Guns....
ReplyDeleteStill, there's no denying the songs share a very simialr melody.
sedap nye lagu nie..............................................bapok sedop
ReplyDeletegreat song!
