Horseshoes and Handgrenades Lyrics Green Day
What do Horseshoes and Handgrenades have in common? You can throw them both...as noted in the comments by onto person, it's actually an expression and kind of an be translated as close but no cigar... kinda.
Horseshoes and Handgrenades is the first song from Act III of Green Day's 21st Century Breakdown. The Act is also named Horseshoes and Hand Grenades.
Horseshoes and Handgrenades:
I think I'm coming out
All the deceivers and cheaters
I've think we've got a bleeder right now
Want you to slap me around
Want you to knock me out
Well, you missed me kissed me
Now you better kick me down
Maybe you're the runner up
But the first one to lose the race
Almost only really counts in
Horseshoes and hand grenades
I'm gonna burn it all down
I'm gonna rip it out
Well, everything that you employ
Was meant for me to destroy
To the ground now
So don't you fuck me around
Because I'll shoot you down
I'm gonna drink, fight and fuck
And pushing my luck
All the time now
Maybe you're the runner up
But the first one to lose the race
Almost only really counts in
Horseshoes and hand grenades
Demolition, self-destruction
What to annihilate
The age-old contradiction
Demolition, self-destruction
What to annihilate
The old age
I'm not fucking around
I think I'm coming out
All the deceivers and cheaters
I've think we've got a bleeder right now
I'm not fucking around
G-L-O-R-I-A
YES! Now we are fucking back to the Green Day I love. They need more songs like this and less of that lyrical ballad crap (i.e. Last Night on Earth).
ReplyDeleteyeah definitely PUNK and pretty good, the only thing is that i don't want people to get the wrong idea when the first line of the song is "IM NOT FUCKIN AROUND" i dont know its just not the impression that theyre a really interesting band
ReplyDeleteThe reference horseshoes and hand grenades is not just because you can throw them both. It's because they are both activities where you only need to be close to win. This is a long standing military saying, often with "nuclear bombs" added.

ReplyDeleteThis is for the above comment: No shit. You really didn't need to explain it since the metaphor is universally known.
ReplyDeleteFor the above comment: I didn't know it was a saying and never heard the two words together until the I heard about this fabulous album and so looked it up after the comment was made!
ReplyDeletefor the above comment: neat
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this album. There are only 3 songs I'm not crazy about, and they're slowly growing on me... Can't wait until July 18 when the band comes to the Bell Centre
ReplyDeleteJust for clarification the full metaphor is "Almost only counts with horseshoes and handgrenades."
ReplyDeleteThere are lyrics missing here and pretty much everywhere else i've looked.... The part about being" a hater, a traitor in a pair of Chuck Taylors' right now". I'm not sure why. It's in thre lyrics that come with the album.
ReplyDeletecomment above dude ur rite thts gay but bad ass song
