“March of the Dogs” Lyrics by Green Day

“March of the Dogs” Lyrics by Green Day

Green Day are back with new album 21st Century Breakdown. Produced by Butch Vig the March of the Dog Lyrics hint at Pink Floy's Dogs of War but the song's lyrics really reflect an a concern with religtion:

"“I want to know who’s allowed to breed/All the dogs who never learned to read/Missionaries, politicians/And the cops of a new religion.”

According to Rolling Stone magazine It’s a biting indictment of contemporary religion that starts intense and never lets up, even for a marching-drum bridge."

Hard and fast from start to finish, this spiky four-and-a-half-minute tune finds Armstrong ranting, "I threw my conscience in the river in the shadow of doubt," referencing the famous Biblical passage, Psalm 23:4, which reads, "I will walk through the valley of the shadow of death... I will fear no evil."

“Before the Lobotomy” Green Day Lyrics

“Before the Lobotomy” Lyrics from 21st Century Breakdown by Green Day.

The song itself is probably focused on the perspective of the character Gloria who runs around 21st Century Breakdown.

A lobotomy is a surgical procedure in which a part of the brain is removed. It's lyrical use in the title is to perhaps suggest that religion renders the brain lethargic as what happens post a lobotomy....

Before the Lobotomy Lyrics:

Dreaming, I was only dreaming
Of another place and time
Where my family's from

Singing, I can hear them singing
When the rain had washed away
All these scattered dreams

Dying, everyone's reminded
Hearts are washed in misery
Drenched in gasoline

Laughter, there's no more laughter
Songs of yesterday now live in the underground

Life before the lobotomy
Christian sang the eulogy
Sign of my love a lost memory
From the end of the Century

Well it's enough to make you sick
To cast a stone and throw a brick
When the sky is falling down
It burned your dreams into the ground

Christian's lesson
Is what he's been sold
We are normal and self-controlled
Remember to learn to forget
Whiskey shots and cheap cigarettes

Well I'm not stoned, I'm just fucked up
I got so high, I can't stand up
I'm not cursed cause I've been blessed
I'm not in love cause I'm a mess

Like refugees
We're lost like refugees
Like refugees
We're lost like refugees
The brutality of reality
Is the freedom that keeps me from

Dreaming, I was only dreaming
Of another place and time
Where my family's from

Singing, I can hear them singing
When the rain had washed away all these scattered dreams

Dying, everyone's reminded
Hearts are washed in misery
Drenched in gasoline

Laughter, there's no more laughter
Songs of yesterday
Now live in the underground

know your enemy single image green day coverKnow Your Enemy Lyrics:
Do you know the enemy?
Do you know your enemy?
Well, gotta know the enemy

Do you know the enemy?
Do you know your enemy?
Well, gotta know the enemy

Do you know the enemy?
Do you know your enemy?
Well, gotta know the enemy

Violence is an enemy
Against the enemy
Violence is an energy

Bringing on the fury
The choir infantry
Revolt against the honor to obey

Overthrow the effigy
The vast majority
Burning down the foreman of control

Silence is the enemy
Against your urgency
So rally up the demons of your soul

Do you know the enemy?
Do you know your enemy?
Well, gotta know the enemy

Do you know the enemy?
Do you know your enemy?
Well, gotta know the enemy

The insurgency will rise
When the bloods been sacrificed
Don't be blinded by the lies
In your eyes

Violence is an energy
From here to eternity
Violence is an energy
Silence is the enemy
So gimme gimme revolution

Do you know the enemy?
Do you know your enemy?
Well, gotta know the enemy

Do you know the enemy?
Do you know your enemy?
Well, gotta know the enemy

Overthrow the effigy
The vast majority
Burning down the foreman of control

Silence is the enemy
Against your urgency
So rally up the demons of your soul

21st Century Breakdown Song Lyrics by Green Day

21st Century Breakdown Song Lyrics by Green Day

The title track from the new Green Day album. Produced by Butch Vig of Garbage drums and Nirvana
production fame, 21st Century Breakdown, and according to Rolling Stone:

21st Century Breakdown"kicks into a familiar Green Day three-chord blast, but morphs into multiple movements like some of the more rock-opera-heavy numbers on American Idiot. “My generation is zero, I never made it as a working class hero,” Armstrong sings, making a reference to the John Lennon track the band covered in 2007 for a John Lennon tribute album. Still in a grumpy mood afterAmerican Idiot then...

Born into Nixon, I was raised in hell.
A welfare child where the teamsters dwelled.
The last one born, the first one to run,
My dad/town was blind by refinery sun.

My generation is zero.
I never made it as a working class hero
21st century breakdown
I once was lost but never was found.
I think I'm losing what's left of my mind.
to the 20th century deadline.

I was made of poison and blood.
Condemnation is what I understood
From Mexico to the Berlin Wall
Homeland security could kill us all.

My generation is zero.
I never made it as a working class hero.
21st century breakdown,
I once was lost but never was found.
I think I'm losing what's left of my mind.
to the 20th century deadline.

We are the cries of the class of 13
born in the era of humility
we are the desperate in the decline
raised by the bastards of 1969!!!

My name is no one, your long lost son
Born on the 4th of July
raising the bygones of heroes and cons
left me for dead or alive

There is the war that's inside my head
that questions the results and lies
While breaking my back til I'm damn near well dead
When enough ain't enough to survive.

I am an agent, a worker, a pawn
my debt to the status quo
the scars on my hands are a means to an end
it's all that I have to show

I'm taking a loan on my sanity
for the redemption of my soul
well I am exempt from this tragedy
and the 21st century fall

Praise, Liberty
the freedom to obey
it's a song that strangles me
well, don't cross the line

Oh, dream American dream
I can't even sleep/see
from brainstorms/rainstorms til dawn
Oh, bleed America bleed
believe what you read
from heroes and cons.

Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) song lyrics by Green Day

Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) song lyrics by Green Day

Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) was a surprise crossover hit for Green Day from their Nimrod album. It is a break up song and despite the lyrics, it is widely used as inspiration for happier events.

On the album version, at the beginning, the song's lyrics writer and singer Billie Joe Armstrong makes a mistake (the 3rd and 4th strings of the open G/D chord are played instead of the 2nd and 3rd), tries again, repeats the mistake, and in anger swears.

This "mistake" was deliberately included in the song to provide comic relief, as the lyrics clearly show it's one of their more serious songs.

Good Riddance (Time of your Life) Lyrics:

Another turning point;
a fork stuck in the road.

Time grabs you by the wrist;
directs you where to go.

So make the best of this test
and don't ask why.

It's not a question
but a lesson learned in time.

It's something unpredictable
but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life.

So take the photographs
and still frames in your mind.

Hang it on a shelf
In good health and good time.

Tattoos of memories
and dead skin on trial.

For what it's worth,
it was worth all the while.

It's something unpredictable
but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life.

(music break)

It's something unpredictable
but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life.

It's something unpredictable
but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life.

Green Day's 21st Century Breakdown album cover

Green Day's 21st Century Breakdown album cover

21st century breakdown greenday album cover

The long awaited Green Day album is to be released in May. 21st Century Breakdown's song structure into three chapters, Heroes and Cons, Charlatans and Saints, and Horseshoes and Handgrenades.

The album cover was inspired by the artist, Sixten. Talking about the inspiration for the picture of the couple kissing Sixten has said:

"I actually don't know who they are... they [the couple] were just friends of a friend at a party in Eskilstuna, Sweden, sometime in uh... 2000? Something like that. I wasn't even there." Instead the artist explained a mutual friend snapped a picture of the pair kissing, which then inspired Sixten. "I love their passion, and just had to make a stencil out of it to spread the love,"
Check out Sixten's Blog which explains in better detail.
Someone in the Green Day camp then produced the album cover. (when I figure out who I'll give credit!)

21st Century Breakdown will be Green Day's 8th Studio album and the follow up to the mega selling American Idiot.
